IIT stands for Indian Institutes of Technology was started in 1951. In its initial years (1951-1954), students were allowed on the basis of their academic results followed by an Interview in various centre’s across the country. It is an autonomous public academic institute with 23 campuses all over India. The IITs is a successful visionary venture of India’s first Prime Minister, Nehru. The functioning of all the IITs is governed by Institutes of Technology Act, 1961 where the Indian president is the most powerful dignitary within the management of IIT, serving as the ex-officio visitor. Another government dignitary, the Union HRD Minister is the ex-officio Chairperson of IIT Council.

Upcoming Exam dates for IIT-JEE :
JEE Mains 2020 January Session entrance test will be held from 6th to 9th January 2020. The April Session exam will be conducted from 3rd April till 9th April 2020.
The pattern of IIT JEE exam :
Nowadays, the IIT JEE is a single-stage objective type examination consisting of two papers of three hours duration each to check comprehension & analytical ability of candidates. Both Paper-1 and Paper-2 will each have three separate sections on Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics. All questions are going to be of Objective Type, designed to check aptitude, comprehension and analytical ability of the candidates.
Eligibility for the IIT JEE :
- Candidates appearing in (10+2) or equivalent qualifying examination, must secure a minimum of 60%(55% for SC/ST and PD) marks in aggregate in their respective Board Examination.
- A student can have only two attempts to write down the JEE in the year during which he or she passes the XIIth standard examination and/or in the following year.
- Candidates who join any of the IITs, IT-BHU, Varanasi, and ISM, Dhanbad through JEE won’t be permitted to seem for JEE in future.
- Candidates should be less than 25 years in age, with five-year relaxation for SC, ST.
- Candidates can attempt the exam at most two times in two consecutive years.
The selection process for IIT-JEE :
- One exam for admission to IITs, NITs and IIITs
- The new JEE will incorporate 2 Tests viz. Main Test and Advanced Test which will test problem-solving ability in basic science subjects – Physics, Chemistry and maths. Both Tests are going to be of three hours duration each.
- Only the topmost 1,50,000 candidates, based on their performance in JEE (Mains) will qualify to appear within the JEE (Advanced) exam, which will rank the aspirants for admissions to IITs, provided the applicants are among the highest 20% high scorers of their respective boards at school XII examination.
